On a cold, wet day at Throstle Nest Maltby Main prevailed 3-2 against Albion Sports, despite throwing away a two goal lead.
The first chance of the game fell to Maltby Main, when Oliver Fearon put his fellow striker through on goal, but had his shot well saved, before his rebound was tipped round the post. Maltby Main then took the lead, when Joe Davis tucked home from close range. Just after the half-hour mark Alex Cusack had a great chance, inside the six yard box, but found his effort deflected over the crossbar. Soon after Maltby Main doubled their lead when Maltby’s winger knocked the ball round the keeper, for Oliver Fearon to comfortably tap home. Just before half-time, there was an almighty scramble on Maltby Main’s line, but Albion Sports couldn’t squeeze the ball over the line, and it was eventually cleared.
Just after the hour mark Albion Sports came back into it, when Malachi Farquharson, smashed a beauty into the top corner from thirty yards out. Almost straight after, Albion equalized when a great free-kick by Tom Dugdale, flicked off Joel Ettiene’s head into the top corner. Maltby Main soon retook the lead when static defending by Albion’s captain Asif Hussain, led to Michael Cuckson comfortably slotting home. One minute into injury time Albion squandered a great chance when Daniel Facey squared the ball to an Albion substitute but he fired wide of an open goal.
