So, the first week of Sochi 2014 has passed without controversy. Germany top the medal table after dominating the luge with Felix Loch defending his title. Norway have dominated the cross-country skiing, The Netherlands have dominated the speed skating, thanks to 5000m gold by defending champion Sven Kramer, however Switzerland and Canada lie in second and third places in the medal table.

So far Team GB have had mixed fortunes, with Jenny Jones winning an unexpected bronze in the snowboard slope style and Lizzie Yarnold winning Skeleton gold by almost a second. However, Short-track speed skater Elise Christie was relegated from silver in the 500m, and given a DNF in the 1500m heats. James Woods came fifth in the ski slope style while Shelley Rudman could only manage 16th in the women’s skeleton.

So far Team GB have had Curling success with the women’s team in the semi final spots having won four and lost two, while the Men’s team also lie in the semi final spots, having won five and lost one.
