It’s that time of year again. The time of year when the world stops and watches the largest annual sporting event in the world. This time it is coming to God’s own county, Yorkshire. This event is of course, Le Tour De France.

Let’s start away from the race, but with what Le Tour De France will do for Yorkshire. With 3.5 billion people set to tune in this year, it is a perfect opportunity to advertise Yorkshire and bring tourists to the county in their droves. For small towns such as Haworth and Holmfirth this is a perfect event as they can bring tourists to their towns, and give a real boost to all the local businesses.

But now, let’s move onto the race itself, and after seeing the riders cycle through Millennium Square last night, I am as well as many millions of people , excited to line the streets in the presence of cycle greatness, such as Chris Froome, Alberto Contador and Mark Cavendish. He of course won’t be challenging for the yellow jersey, but stage wins especially stage one that finishes in his mothers home town of Harrogate. But the Froome and Contador most certainly will.

And the best thing about it? Free stuff from the publicity caravan!
