Farsley rekindled their play off push last night as they stunned title challengers Darlington in a thrilling match.

Throughout the early stages, it looked like a role reversal, with Farsley dominating and Darlington being barely able to string a pass together. Farsley were good value for their lead when they went in front, Aiden Savory’s cross-cum-shot being turned in at the back post by Adam Priestley. Moments later Farsley had a penalty shout when Darlington ‘keeper Peter Jameson ¬†fumbled the ball and appeared to fell Aiden Savory, however the appeals were waved away by referee Tom Parsons. Midway through the first half Farsley doubled their lead when Aiden Savory beautifully lobbed Jameson. Just before half time Farsley continued to show their dominance when a Mike Aspin cross was headed against the bar by Aiden Savory.

Just after half time Darlington got back into it when the league’s top scorer Nathan Cartman headed the ball onto the underside of the crossbar with the officials adjudging the ball to have crossed the line. Soon after Cartman and the officials were back under the spotlight when the ex-Harrogate Railway man went down in the box and was awarded a penalty, much to the disgust of the Farsley players and fans. The penalty was calmly tucked away by Terence Galbraith. With the match evened out, a moment of inspiration was needed to grab a winner, and that was produced by Farsley’s Kyle Hancock as he curled in a sensational free-kick from 25 yards to send the outnumbered Farsley fans wild. Darlington’s chances of grabbing an equaliser were quashed, when with less than ten minutes to go Alan White was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
