Kendal Town got their season off to a flying start with a comfortable 3-0 win over Farsley Celtic, who were in their first game back under their original guise. On a quite balmy day for Throstle Nest, a large crowd packed in to witness the opening day. However Farsley suffered a disastrous start when Farsley debutant Harley Wigley’s back pass in the opening minute was intercepted by Jordan Connerton who had his effort saved, before Ben Thomas tucked away the rebound. Midway through the first half Celts’ new signing Leon Osborne cut inside with a good run before shooting just over. Just after the half-hour mark Nick Guest had a great chance, however he saw his header tipped over by Kendal ‘keeper Richard Whiteside. Kendal almost doubled their lead when Tom Kilifin’s cross was met by Craig Carney who saw his header brilliantly saved at point blank range by Tom Taylor.
Early in the second period Kendal doubled their lead when Celts defender James Riley slipped over in the box allowing Tom Kilifin to slot home just a day after joining the club. Immediately after Sam Baily’s free-kick from just short of the halfway line caught Farsley ‘keeper Tom Taylor unaware as the ball looped into the net to confine Farsley to more misery. Farsley pushed hard throughout the closing minutes however lacked the final ball, as Kendal held on for a terrific victory.
