Northwich Victoria continued their 100% start to the season as they defeated Farsley Celtic 2-1 at Throstle Nest. Northwich started the brighter and almost took the lead when Stuart Cook’s free-kick was brilliantly saved by Celtic ‘keeper Tom Taylor. Shortly after Northwich thought they had taken the lead, however Ryan Astles’ effort was disallowed as he was deemed offside. Tom Taylor then thwarted Northwich again as he terrifically saved Ryan Astles’ header. Midway through the first half Farsley defender Aaron Hardy was adjudged to have brought down Jordan Williams inside the box, which gave Stuart Cook the chance to open Northwich’s account. He duly converted, sending Taylor the wrong way. Farsley came out of the blocks quickly in the second half as captain Robbie O’Brien played in the lively Lewis Nightingale who slotted past ‘keeper Mason Springthorpe to level the score. Minutes later Paul Walker almost opened his Farsley account as his free-kick flew through the wall and forced a good save from Springthorpe. Northwich started to take control of the match, and their pressure eventually provided a goal as Williams’ effort was turned in at the front post by Cedric Krue. Deep into injury time Farsley had a great chance as time ran out, the ball bobbling about the area before falling to Ross Daly on the edge of the box, who then crossed for O’Brien before his acrobatic overhead kick flew just over the bar, and with it Farsley’s chances of earning a point.
