Scarborough Athletic progressed to the quarter finals of the Integro Doodson cup after they defeated Farsley Celtic in a thrilling penalty shootout. Scarborough had a great chance in the first minute to take the lead as Thomas Corner beat the offside trap only for Jake Lofthouse to make a smart save and deny the forward. However from the resulting corner Scarborough did take the lead as Steve Mallory’s delivery fell to Corner who rifled home from 12 yards out. Midway through the first half Corner had the chance to double the Seasiders’ lead as his thumping header crashed against the bar from a Mallory corner. Corner continued to cause havoc in the Farsley defence and was again denied by Lofthouse who made the save before Kyle Harrison cleared off the line. Farsley created their first clearcut opportunity of the game in the final moments of the half as Chris Howarth crossed to Paul Walker who shot just wide of the upright.

Farsley pulled level on the hour mark as Walker was upended in the box by Thomas McNamee before Lewis Nightingale stepped up to convert. Farsley piled on the pressure late on and almost won it when Walker’s shot took a deflection and flashed inches past the outside of the post.

As the game went straight to penalties substitute Joe Lamplough took the decisive penalty to send Scarborough through to the quarter finals as he took advantage of Ross Daly’s miss. Despite this penalty shootout defeat Farsley extended their unbeaten run to 15 games, and haven’t lost in 90 minutes in the Integro Doodson cup for the last two seasons.
