Farsley Celtic ended a run of six games without victory as they defeated playoff hopefuls 2-0 in a feisty game at Throstle Nest. There was a controversial moment early in the game as Celtic defender James Knowles was adjudged to have brought down Sefton Gonzales who was bearing down on goal, however the referee only deemed it a yellow card much to the frustration of Clitheroe. Midway through the first half Farsley took the lead as Ross Daly squared to Aiden Savory who tapped into an empty net. A needless fracas broke out a short while after when Clitheroe were given a soft free-kick, which resulted in Ross Daly, Brandon Barski and Simon Garner, who was lucky to stay on the pitch, all receiving yellow cards. On the brink of halftime The Celts had a fine opportunity to double their lead as Ross Daly played in Chris Howarth who’s effort was well saved by Ben Woodhead. Clitheroe thought they had equalised on the hour mark when Louis Mayers saw his driven effort well saved by Tom Taylor before substitute Michael Hampson slotted home the rebound, only to be flagged offside. Farsley then got a deserved second after some delightful football which resulted in Paul Walker pulling the ball back to Lewis Nightingale who flicked home for his 20th of the season. With time running out Gonzales rattled the bar as he fired goal wards from the edge of the box.
