Farsley Celtic delivered a clinical second half performance as they came from 2-0 down to defeat local rivals Garforth Town 4-2 in preseason.
Farsley hit the woodwork four times in the first half, and the first occasion happened early on as Richard Marshall crossed for Chris Howarth who turned the ball onto the back post. Immediately after Garforth Town launched a counter attack and Jake Rose played through Mitch Hamilton who fired home past Farsley ‘keeper Jake Lofthouse. Farsley continued the pressure as Nathan Turner clipped the ball over the ‘keeper and onto the bar. On the half hour mark James Walshaw had a great opportunity to level the scores however Paul Hargreen managed to save from point blank range. For the second time Garforth launched an immediate counter attack and scores as Mark Simpson fired the ball into the top corner from 30 yards out to double their advantage. Aiden Savory became the fourth Farsley player to hit the woodwork, after Walshaw did shortly before, as he curled the ball goalwards only for the ball to clip the bar. And right on halftime Garforth’s Lee Turner fired wide with the goal gaping.
After making three changes at halftime The Celts’ made a fast start to the half as Peter Davidson played through James Walshaw who slotted home. Minutes later Walshaw fired home past Hargreen with a rasping effort to level the scores. Farsley continued the pressure as Jordan Deacey saw his shot blocked before his follow up effort was then saved. As Farsley recycled possession and continued to pile forward Paul Walker was felled in the box. James Walshaw stepped up to convert the penalty and completed his Hat-trick and with it the Farsley comeback. The goalscoring was then completed in the 77th minute as Walker fooled Hargreen by curling the ball into the bottom corner from a freekick on the edge of the box, to earn Farsley a deserved 4-2 victory.
