Harrogate Railway put in a clinical performance as they progressed to the preliminary round of the FA Cup with a 3-0 victory over league rivals Albion Sports.

Albion Sports started the brighter and had the first chance of the game as Michael O’Brien lashed over from the edge of the box. Much of the first half was a dull affair however the game sparked into life just after the half hour mark when Omar Habeeb was denied courtesy of an excellent save by Railway ‘keeper Jake Lofthouse. Lofthouse then made another smart save moments later as he denied Rhys Jenkinson the chance to open the scoring.

Albion Sports had a glorious chance to open the scoring at the start of the second half however Lofthouse made a spectacular save from Habeeb’s header at point blank range before Habeeb headed the rebound over. Harrogate then countered and Ryan Sharrocks delivered an inch perfect cross for Steve Bromley who headed home to open the scoring. Lofthouse then denied Habeeb once more as he struggled to get his shot away after it fell to him kindly in the box. Midway through the second half Harrogate doubled their lead as Harry Brown’s free kick fell to Bromley who slotted home at the far post . Albion Sports then threw everything at Railway without creating any clearcut opportunities before Chris Ovington raced through on goal and coolly slotted past Kyle Trennery to secure the victory for Harrogate Railway.
