In a game severely lacking in quality at Throstle Nest Farsley were held to a 0-0 draw by Ramsbottom United. It may have been the damp and slippy conditions but both sides seemed to have a missing link, and in Farsley’s case that may have been the creativity of the suspended Richard Marshall.
Both sides struggled throughout the match to string a set of passes together however this was particularly apparent in the first half when opportunities were sparse. Yet Farsley should have taken the lead when Paddy Miller’s free-kick gave Aiden Savory a free header however he failed to hit the target. James Walshaw managed to test Charlie Albinson in the Ramsbottom United goal as his effort from Lewis Nightingale’s corner was parried away to safety. Ryan Salmon had the best chances in the first half for Ramsbottom as twice he found himself through on goal, however on both occasions he failed to get a shot away and you feel if Gareth Seddon was on the pitch Farsley could have been in trouble.
Just before the hour mark Farsley almost took the lead as a delicious, fizzing cross from Paul Walker was headed wide at the far post at full stretch by a diving Ross Daly. Shortly after Ryan Salmon could have put Ramsbottom ahead however he headed wide following Darren Green’s sumptuous delivery. Farsley then put together the best move of the match with some nice interplay before Peter Davidson slipped the ball through to Nathan Turner who saw his shot well saved by Albinson. Ramsbottom had two chances late on to snatch all three points, the first saw Graeme McKibbin make a fine save to deny Josh Askew’s deflected shot before substitute Sam Freakes fired into the side netting when in space, and ultimately both sides took away a share of the spoils.
