Farsley Celtic will look to continue their unbeaten start to 2017 as they welcome local rivals Brighouse Town for a crucial Evo-Stik Division 1 North tie, ahead of a tough run of fixtures in which The Celts play three of their promotion rivals. Farsley will be looking to gain revenge for their 2-1 defeat at the Dual Seal Stadium earlier in the season, as despite taking the league through a superb Richard Marshall strike, Brighouse hit back through a Chris Howarth own goal, and a Tom Haigh strike, whilst Farsley’s top scorer James Walshaw was dismissed late on.
Farsley will look to bounce back to winning ways after a 1-1 draw away at Droylsden, a game they would have won comfortably had it not been for the heroics of James Coates in the Droylsden goal as he made save after save to deny The Villagers. Farsley have risen to fourth through their unbeaten start to the year and have games in hand on those around them, but a win is imperative to keep pace with leaders Lancaster City ahead of next week’s trip to the Giant Axe. The Celts once again should have a full squad to select from other than Alex Davidson who remains out injured.
Brighouse have had a strange season, going well clear at the top after defeating Farsley earlier in the season, before embarking on a dreadful run that has seen them sink to eighth in the table. Brighouse have been winless since they defeating Colwyn Bay on the New Year’s Bank Holiday, drawing to Bamber Bridge and Scarborough either side of a defeat to lowly Burscough. Brighouse have been busy in the transfer market as they look to freshen things up, bringing in proven goal scorer Mike Fish from Mossley who has 22 goals this season, whilst also signing Yorkshire Amateur forward Adam Shaw who impressed on trial. They have no apparent injury concerns.
So why not come down and cheer on your local team at Throstle Nest, with admission prices just £7 adults, £4 concessions and £1 U16s. The game kicks off at 3pm and we hope to see you there!
