Farsley Celtic welcome Glossop North End to Throstle Nest for another crucial clash between two teams vying for promotion in the Evo-Stik Division 1 North. When the two sides met at Surrey Street The Celts ran out 2-0 winners thanks to two first half goals in a match that was fortunate to survive the weather, James Walshaw opening the scoring and Jordan Deacey doubling Farsley’s lead just before the break.
Farsley will head into this game full of confidence after a superb 4-1 victory over Scarborough Athletic on Tuesday, James Walshaw bagging a brace along with goals from Peter Davidson and Paul Walker. This success maintained fourth position in the lead for The Celts, however Farsley increased the pressure on those above them, now just two points off second placed Ossett and nine points behind leaders Lancaster with three games in hand on both. The Celts have lost just once this year, which was last weekend’s last gasp defeat to Lancaster. Despite being controversially sent off on Tuesday, Richard Marshall will be available for selection with his suspension not yet kicking in, whilst Lamin Colley is in line to make his home debut after a brief appearance against Scarborough.
Glossop are well and truly in the promotion race again this year as they sit fifth just five points behind Farsley, albeit having played one game more. Like Farsley, Glossop also earned a crucial victory against promotion rivals on Tuesday, winning 1-0 away to Trafford. This ended a run of four games without victory in regulation time, as they suffered defeat at the hands of Ossett Town and Bamber Bridge in the league, whilst also bowing out of the Derbyshire Senior Cup to Gresley. Additionally they drew against Leek Town in the League Cup, but managed to progress on penalties. They have no apparent injury concerns.
So why not come down and cheer on The Celts, the game kicks off at 3pm at Throstle Nest, postcode LS28 5BE. Admission prices are just £7 adults, £4 concessions and £1 U16s. See you there!
