Farsley Celtic blew the chance to move three points clear at the top of the league with an insipid, unimaginative and tired performance as they were defeated 4-2 by Clitheroe.
Farsley controlled the early stages and took the lead as Ryan Watson was fed by Jordan Deacey, and his drilled effort was turned into his own net by Ian Rowlands. However, Clitheroe started to grasp a foothold in the game and produced their first opportunity as the ball was nicely worked to Aidan Kirby who shot just over. Just after the half hour mark Clitheroe drew level as Louis Myers’ free-kick fell to Charlie Russell who’s header was saved by Graeme McKibbin before he bundled home the rebound.
Clitheroe completed the turnaround shortly after the break, as Russell let fly with a dipping half volley from 30 yards that crashed against the bar before striking Graeme McKibbin and falling into the goal. Paul Walker came inches away from hauling Farsley level, as he was picked out by Jordan Deacey at the far post, only for his shot to be dragged agonisingly wide. Just a minute later the game changed completely as Aiden Savory was sent for an early shower after an alleged elbow when jumping for a header. Just after, Richard Marshall has hauled down as he attempted to break away by the last defender, however somehow the referee found a reason to wave play on. Brad Carroll then made it 3-1 to Clitheroe after racing through on goal and slotting home. After that Farsley struggled to place their passes and started desperately looking for the long ball, which time and again proved unsuccessful against the commanding centre half pairing of Ian Rowlands and Danny Brady. With time running out a moment of magic from Richard Marshall gave Farsley hope. Lewis Nightingale helped the ball onto Marshall who from 25 yards out fired goal wards on the half volley and his effort flew past Chris Thompson in the Clitheroe goal. But any hope was short lived, as Lewis Nightingale lost the ball to Kurt Willoughby in midfield before the striker broke through on goal and slotted past McKibbin to complete a miserable night for Farsley, who do remain top of the league on goal difference.
