Leeds Force completed a clean sweep over the Manchester Giants in the 2016-17 BBL season as they made it three wins out of three against their cross Pennine rivals. The Force ran out 88-80 winners with a dominant performance beyond the arc with Jack Isenbarger shooting at 61% from three point range. Jermaine Sanders also accumulated 26 points without appearing to take over the game, whilst Manchester shared out the points, Harold Trobo leading the way with 15.
The Force raced out of the blocks in the first quarter with an array of three point efforts, with Marsden and Isenbarger sinking threes. Leeds led 31-21 after the first however through the middle two quarters the Giants closed the gap down to just four. Leeds started to make mistakes with Eddie Matthew and Disraeli Lufadeju both guilty of turning over the ball on numerous occasions, Manchester securing 21 points from turnovers. As Manchester looked to pull off an unlikely win, Clayfell Harris produced a monster block on Callum Jones which sent both players flying into the advertising hoardings, before Eddie Matthew sunk a three to extend the Force’s lead. Harold Trobo produced the highlight reel slam dunk to give the Giants hope once more, however further Force free throws from Isenbarger, who finished with 29 points, and Jermain Sanders, who added nine rebounds to his 26 points, secured the victory for Leeds.
The Force now face the long trip down to Bristol tomorrow needing a win and a Surrey loss to keep their unlikely playoff hopes mathematically alive.
