Farsley Celtic will travel to Evo-Stik Division 1 North side South Shields in the first round of the Integro League Cup on Tuesday evening. Farsley reached the last sixteen of the competition last season, thanks to wins over Ossett Albion (4-0) and Goole AFC (5-2), before losing 3-2 to Ashton United. This is South Shields’s first campaign in the Evo-Stik league, so it will be the first meeting between the two sides. In a quirk of fate, South Shields will visit Throstle Nest later this month for an FA Trophy tie.

The Celts will be looking to continue their excellent recent form as they head up to South Shields on the back of a five game unbeaten run. This run has seen Farsley produce excellent wins against Marine (2-1), Coalville Town (3-2), Nantwich Town (2-0) and Knaresborough Town (4-1), whilst most recently they drew 1-1 with Lancaster City, Adam Clayton scoring the equaliser. Farsley will welcome Kurt Harris and Chris Atkinson back into contention after they missed Saturday’s draw, whilst Lachlan Quirke could make his debut after being an unused substitute at the weekend. Richard Marshall remains sidelined through injury. Ahead of the game Farsley manager Adam Lakeland said “We head to South Shields on Tuesday night in the Integro League Cup, which isn’t an ideal draw for us, but we will field a strong side and look for another positive result.”

South Shields have adapted to life in the Evo-Stik Division 1 North in superb style and are currently 2nd, trailing leaders Bamber Bridge by three points with three games in hand. The Mariners will be looking to bounce back to winning ways after their seven game winning run came to a halt as they were defeated 2-1 by Hartlepool United in the FA Cup 4th qualifying round. In that run South Shields had recorded impressive FA Cup victories against higher ranked opponents in Darlington (3-0) and York City (3-2), whilst also defeating Scarborough Athletic in the FA Trophy (5-2). South Shields will welcome Academy duo Ryan Colquhoun and Ethan Biwer into their squad tomorrow after they both signed first-team forms. They have no apparent injury concerns.

The game takes place on Tuesday at Mariners Park, postcode NE32 3UP. Kick off is at 7.45pm and admission prices are £8 adults, £6 concessions and £2 U16s. If you can’t make the game you can follow the action on Twitter with @FarsleyCelticFC.
